5d Mark II

This camera looks freaking awesome! Wow! I can't wait! If Canon didn't release this I was gonna buy a Nikon D90

Checkout DP Review for a general review and as soon as I have one I'll let you guys know how I like it.

It's such a funny game that Canon and Nikon play b/c Canon has had the ability to do all this stuff for awhile but since Nikon, being a smaller company can't develop as fast Canon just waits and then whenever Nikon releases something good Canon releases something a little bit better. I know everyone gets crazy about Canon/Nikon Mac/PC Raw/Jpeg and I think it's funny b/c both companies have really good cameras but Canon will always be the leader now that it's a technology game.

I am so jealous! I wish that I could get my hands on such a fine camera... only in my God sized dreams!

Hold on, Canon will always be the leader releasing the long awaited 5D replacement with the same old 9 point AF system without any improvements? Sure Canon may have the sensor down, but I don't see them as the leader anymore. Bigger Mp's don't really mean better images. There's allot more black lenses on TV now.

I prefer the Leica vs Zeiss arguement where it's about image quality and not about how many mp's one has. Rock On!

Megapixels mean very little - I agree - I'm actually talking more about the video features on the 5d, Image Color with AWB, and high ISO shooting.

:)

If it's as good as the Nikon at 6400, you'll be pretty happy! Even 25,600 is doable under certain situations.

Flash system Nikon > Canon
Color rendering Nikon < Canon
Lens sharpness reputation Nikon > Canon
Price per similar product Nikon < Canon
Color rendering Nikon < Canon

Advantage Canon? It's a mixed bag.

It's how you use it. The brand of your hammer doesn't matter.

seriously, I'm extremely dissappointed... yeah, they have more mega pixels (who cares) and now hopefully better noise... (awesome) but with such poor auto focus it's hard to be happy with this release.

They're using the same parts as where used in the original 5d over 3 years ago!!!

Would LOVE to love this camera, but with junk auto focus I just can't...

Hey Tim, did you try it out? What situations were problematic for focusing?

Can I have dibs on any of your hand-me-downs?

i guess youll need to come up with a product called showitHD now that can do vids AND pics hahah.

i was disappointed they didnt bump the burst speed of the cam up from the original. the mkII is nothing more than a better low light performer than the old for me (a guy who doesnt care about video or live preview or megapixels). sad.

yep, I've tried the old 5d many many times (the new 5d has the exact same parts for auto focus according to canon's release)

if you compare the snappy auto focus of the 1d series cameras to that of the 5d and the likes there is a big difference.

the 5d is not anywhere as fast at re-focusing from something far away to something closer to the camera and this makes it tough to document different moments taking place at different times. I'm anal like that and prefer the super snappy focus of the 1d GREATLY over the 5d.

but then again, my lovely wife has no problems AT ALL with the 5d focus and thinks the 1d weighs too much.

it all comes down to personal preference, but for my shooting style it doesn't work.

can't wait for canon to release a complete camera update.

(and just wait, I'll end up putting my foot in my mouth once the camera releases and I see the file quality, but until them, I'm sad about the auto focus, pretty lame move on canon's part)

And yes... I am first on the waiting list at Samy's for the 5d mkii because I'm gonna try and train myself to not need quick auto focus.

Hey Tim :) I thought you'd be wanting more FPS! ;)

Personally I'm most excited about the video!

Tim, that's funny... I've really never had an issue with the 5D autofocus. I don't think I've ever once had to trash an image because the camera didn't focus quickly enough...

That being said, I certainly wouldn't try to use the 5D for fast paced sports stuff like DJ's ninja moves either. :)

Hey Chris, check out DWF. All I've been reading for a while is that people can't wait for the new 5D because they are fed up with the AF. It's the one thing everyone was asking for. I guess they wanted a camera with professional features outside of the sensor instead of an high end consumer camera. I can't believe the price though...

Just what I've heard...

DJ, wait until you try it to get excited. I've found it all comes down to the handling when shooting video. I can't image doing it from the LCD screen on a heavy DSLR, while trying to prevent camera shake. I guess I'll know when I try it too! It could be amazing with DOF control like that.

hahaha... naw, the fps I can totally handle...

at first I was miffed about the video stuff because I wanted the auto focus updated, but the video part is sounding pretty cool... check out this video from the 5d mkii:

pretty sick!!!!

I may have to train myself to deal with the 5d auto focus because this camera sounds SICK in every other respect
