Morning Chat #1

I'm working on booking a wedding in Mexico for January and I had some thoughts about online video and eliminating fear in prospective clients. Watch the video!

Great stuff, DJ! I love business chats, ha:) For real-- don't worry about the vid quality... it's definitely the content your "viewers" like!

We are aiming to have my promo vid done by December 24th... I am SO excited and will let you know when it's done!

I agree that it's a lot about YOU (or, the photographer), and not just the pictures (while they are important, too, but not necessarily as much).

Selling the Invisible was my first book about marketing I picked up my senior year of college... I thought it looked interesting and at that time I was considering marketing. I agree--it's an awesome book, with short readings and lots of "little" ideas. I'll have to pick it up again-- haven't for awhile!

Hey David

You couldn't be more right on this one...it is a trend that is definitely one to follow. We took it a step further and did it in a professional, classy way...with Wedding Video Testimonials. We shot over 40 beautiful weddings this year and met about 90% of our brides on the morning of the wedding. A strong brand implemented on a well designed site will allow you to book destination brides with confidence on their part. Our video team has also done a studio tour and in action shoot, which will be posted shortly. Dane has done an excellent job of this as well...we all know he is a trendsetter! Video is here and will be something to embrace over the coming years...we have and will be doing some very cool things with it in the future :)

hey DJ great tip! love the idea... but have noticed on my browsing of websites with video that plays automatically upon page load... very skippy and jumpy. in this clip you mention pausing it... but me sites like J* with her video can't be paused... unles i'm missing the buttons. So when i play back it's 1sec play then buffer then play then buffer etc.... BUT it's probably my internet connection... it's broadband but not the fastest available.
Thanks again!

Hey Kellie,

Yea - internet video (and all content actually) is at the mercy of the viewers internet connection. I've always geared my sites toward people with relatively quick connections and it's always give and take. If your connection is a bit slower that's ok but think about what clients you want to reach and then target your site and your marketing towards them.

Rock on!
DJ

I love the idea but I dont know how to load a video to my blog or website. I am considering using your new sites but i'm not sot sold on the monthly charge yet.

DJ I love how the fan is making your hair wave! I want to run my hand through it. :)

mike carpenter - it's very easy to load videos. You can upload them to a third party site like YouTube.com or vimeo.com. They will generate a code that you can copy and paste to your blog which will automatically embed them for you. With DJ's new ShowIt Sites, it's even easier. You just take your video file and drag and drop and voila! :) Good luck!

Hey DJ,

Nice timing... I'm commenting from the hotel I'm staying here in Mexico; I couldn't watch the whole video because the connection sucks but I think I got the idea. I shot a wedding in Puerto Vallarta yesterday and a trash the dress session today and my buddy Erick filmed the whole thing. The videos will be a great compliment to my brand new Showit Site -> www.rudyarpia.com

Thanks for everything!

Hey David,
You are so right about sharing ideas and yes they really do help. I was at the Austin show for the tour this summer and I took away the idea of how you put slide shows up at the reception. So for the first time, during dinner I sat down (took a little breather) and choose about 20 images to edit and show. People flipped out. They were like "wow you're so awesome you already put up pictures...can I have your card" So THANK YOU for that idea...and then I posted a blog when I got home that night b/c the pictures were already ready!

Sooo keep them ideas coming!! We appreciate them!

PS, nice morning bed head!

Nice tip DJ -- and you're right, the bed head didn't scare me one bit. However, I have to admit I was a bit distracted by Fake News...err, um, I mean Fox News being on in the background. Now that's scary!

Video enhances the experience. Couldn't agree more. Ever since I put up my teaser trailer on my main page, it's been well received by potential clients. Can't wait to launch the full video next month!

Good stuff. Practice leads to improvement, never perfect. Nothing breeds success like success. Helping people win in life makes a friend for life. Your whole counsel to people is beyond photography. It leads to the plus side of existence. You had good teachers and now you are one.
