I'm so excited because yesterday I bought 4 new books at borders. I went in there and didn't even plan on buying anything but found awesome books that I didn't even know existed!

This book is from one of my favorite authors named Harry Beckwith...he's super good...

"a life in marketing confirms the wisdom of to thine own self be true. Ultimately, it will feel more comfortable for you; you don't have to think about how you want to be seen...you have a brand. Make sure yours is honest."

It's easy to fall into the tempation of masking who we are in order to create an appearance of who we hope to be. The words "fake it till ya make it" are words that will kill you in todays market because I believe if you "fake it" those around you will see that and they won't help you make it!

Work from the inside out! Become who you want to be and then live it! That's the way to success, fulfillment, and a life well lived.

Be honest, be real, be you!

I agree with what you and "You Inc" is saying. However, I think "fake it to you make it" refers to adopting new behavior. Whenever we change, we have to take on foreign behavior but its not dishonest because it's serving a true intention. The intention is true. Sometimes we have to try new "performances" to see what gets us the results we most desire.

... remember we're not judged on our intentions - we're judged on our actions. :)

I agree that we need to try new things in order to grow but I don't think that should ever give us persmission to present or act in a way that isn't true which is what I was referring to.

DJ...you must know by now that this is what always happens when you walk into Borders...it's a literary trap...and I love it! ;)

I've always had trouble with those words "fake it until you make it". I agree with Paige that there is some merit to those words when applied honestly, but we must be cautious to the danger of living a lie that we never intend to become.

Do you always take the paper covers off your hardcovers? I do. Those obnoxious paper slip covers ruin the aesthetic of the book shelf. I have bought books I'm not interested in before just for the good looking spine.

No Way! I was just reading that exact quote this morning. You used a quote in your talk at wppi that also struck me "it's not how good you are at what you do, it's how good you are at who you are". Scary!! Tim Sanders talks about the same idea of being real in the "Likeablity Factor". One of the things that make you (DavidJ) a great speaker is that you are very real. It's funny and it makes you instantly likeable. I'd like to talk to you more about this topic.

What I love about this book is that it's chunked into short stories and chapters that make it easy to go back and read specific segments (and make it easy for ADD photographers to read). I bought it on Audio before heading to Vegas and then realized I absolutely need to have it in book form as a reference!! Need more shelves!!!

Anne! That's funny b/c my first Beckwith book I got as an audio book before a road trip and then came home and bought the real thing!

I remember being single and childless and being able to buy and read books. Click Clack Moo: Cows That Type
is a very good book I recently read...I highly recommend it.

'The pond is very boring, we want a diving board' still cracks me up every time I read that line!

Probably one of the most concise yet thorough lessons on marketing is nicely summarized in main story of this book. It will take you 30 minutes at most to read it.

I bet some of you think I'm kidding. Well, I'm not...
