Break-ups make you think...

Tonight we went to see the movie "The Break-up" and overall it's a pretty funny movie but I wanted to share with you all that I'm a lot like the main character...not Jennifer Aniston unfortunately...the other one - Vince Vaughn ...and I know you're all going to say "no no DJ..." but I seriously am and a year ago I was out in Chicago shooting a wedding and Pastor Joe asked me what I needed to work on and, among a million things that I could improve, I recognize that I need to focus on myself less and others more.

I know that I've been incredibly blessed with an amazing family, wonderful friends and a couple of great businesses and so all those things have kinda spoiled me and allowed me to do what I want when I want but I'm committing myself to focusing less on what I want to do so I can spend more time focusing on what I should do....and I already know that what I should be doing is investing more in others.

Yours,
DJ

I'm sure we all could invest more into people. Like I just told you a few minutes ago, the moment that you think you invest enough into people, is probably the moment in your life when you should be investing sooooo much more. Always striving to invest more and more into others should be our motto:)

You've invested into my life and business and I thank you for that:)

Night:)

DJ, If you've been self-centered where does that put the rest of us? But leaders see things differently, they see where they could and should be. Followers just see the leaders. So DJ, keep leading, keep pushing the limits, that's what leaders do and that's what you are. - Joe

DJ-- I have been learning this lesson myself (and think I will have to learn it again and again and again! :-) Isn't it so easy to get wrapped up in our own schedules--doing what we want to do when we want to do it?! Good thing God is so gracious to us! I miss you my friend. Thanks for the reminder to be selfless and start doing what I, "should do instead of what I want to do".

I haven’t had the privilege of meeting you yet, but I read your blog often.
Today i am thankful for this entry because that is an echo of my heart. Your honesty helps me along the way.
It’s very evident that you are a giver but one inside only knows how much more they have to give. God gave different places to us all.

Thank you for your honesty, thank you for your goals. You help those you do not even know.

Hey David,

I feel the same way, my friend. I feel like with my business and being single, I have become more selfish. Working for yourself is great but you get to do everything your own way and rarely need to learn to compromise with others or put others' needs before your own. I definitely am with you on needing to work on this.

Miss you! :)

Pastor Britt's question to our congregation has been piercing to me lately.

"Are you passionate about ANYTHING other than yourself Christian?"

great reminder :)

Are we all in the same season of life or what? this is exactly what the Lord has been talking to me about. I how ever don't have my own business and I don't live alone but I still need to learn "Selfishness will destroy your relationships"

I have found that when I choose to deny my selfish desires and do "the thing"........ there is Joy and the ability to go the distance when I thought I couldn't before. Jesus said when the Jews were forced to carry the Romans packs one mile to "go with him two". This is huge!!! Most often I'm asked nicely to do something and here is Jesus telling the Jews to serve beyond that which they are forced to do. I don't know about you but I'm not forced to do much. Truth be told, I don't think of how much my helping others is really helping me. :-)

Sorry. Didn't mean to preach but It's something I've been thinking about and really need to work on.

I think that with OSP, your blog and the beautiful work you do, you are doing a lot for others and focusing on others, even on people you don't even know... LIKE ME!! You inspire some of us, and I think that is a lot. Just starting from that thought I can say I do not agree with what you said. hehehe!
I think you are a person worth getting to know and I hope some day I'll have the priviledge of getting to know you personally... Some day, when I grow up and have enough money to go to your seminars hahaha!!!
Bless you!
