Max and Shara Hsu Wedding!

I am drifting in and out of conciousness. I had a lot of donuts and coffee today.

I will post some pictures tomorrow but here is a fun one of all the groomsmen. Max is the dude that started Superchick for those of you who follow Christian music and I met him randomly a year ago while I was giving a presentation here in Nashville.

Out of nowhere this crazy Asian dude with a gnarly mohawk started harassing me about music copyright but afterwards he came up and we talked and became friends and now we're working on a solution to bring music licensing to the wedding industry. It's a long road but it's been kind of fun to see the labels imploding along the way. Quit frankly they deserve it.

Here's another shot of Shara and Max Hsu, Jen Kroll, and me. Jen Kroll got some INCREDIBLE pictures from the day so be sure to check them out on her blog.

Alright! Finally some people may stop stealing and honor other peoples intellectual property. I'm glad are you are working on music licensing DJ.

I don't understand how so many people, especially photographers can take other artists music without paying them. Their intellectual property is just like ours. Except we use photographs. I know that any photographer, including myself, would stand right up and pursue anyone stealing their images.

Intellectual Property defined:
The term intellectual property reflects the idea that this subject matter is the product of the mind or the intellect. The term implies that intellectual works are analogous to physical property and is consequently a matter of some controversy.

I encourage you to fight the good fight DJ. Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

Copyright is so overlooked these days, I think partially because the public isn't informed enough about it. It's easy to say "Don't steal music!" but not everyone knows what 'stealing' actually entails or why it is that they're stealing. It's really tempting to burn CDs from friends... that's the other thing. It's so easy to do that.

I think that because we can now buy individual songs online (which is obviously much cheaper than buying a whole CD), we should be responsible people and purchase those songs. When I get a new website soon (or...are you creating something I should wait for, DJ?), I want to make sure I do the research about which songs I can use and whatnot... As far as ShowIt Slideshows... I feel that it would be legal to use music I have in my collection(other than the ShowIt songs), as long as the couple is only viewing it on the web and not purchasing the ShowIt DVD. Correct me if I'm wrong though.. I'd like to make sure.

Garrett is right...it is just like our photographs. So many people don't understand the copyright of photographs, and they don't think it's a big deal at all-- again, mostly because they don't understand it. I was talked to this...not really nice guy once who asked me if photos could be copied off the online gallery, and I told him no and that they were copyrighted and it won't let you. He said, "Well there are ways around that..." And I said, "Yeah, but that's illegal." And he literally shrugged his shoulders. So i had to put a watermark on the entire online gallery that was made for him just so he wouldn't steal my work.

Wow... I just wrote a novel...
So I love media law! :)

It seems that everytime "music" is mentioned a conversation about copyright breaks out.

Everyone wants to do it legally and as soon as we are able to we will.

If anyone wants to talk more about that please go to the OSP forum and hash it out inside the appropriate area there.

:)

You're such a lucky/blessed dawg! I love SuperChick. Funny. I always pictured they were all girls. An Asian dude with a gnarley mohawk was the last person I'd expect to be in the group. What the life you lead Mr. Jay. :-)
