Bio - Christina Louvierre's

One of the things I rant and rave about the most is the bio on websites. I think the tendency for most photographers is to make it a resume and so they go on and on about all this photo stuff that (IMHO) the client doesn't know or care about it and all it does is create a separation of your world and theirs.

I think a bio...actually...I think a (service) photographers entire website should be about who they are and what they do should naturally flow through.

Today I came across OSP's lovely Christina Louvierre's website and it has an awesome bio so check it out! ...and wish her a happy birthday too!

My advice - Think of your whole website as a bio.

Great website and bio, but what a bummer to see someone with this much talent doing the "shoot to burn" business. What a huge disservice to her clients, and the industry as a whole! When Gary Fong did this last tour around the U.S., this was the reason why and it boggles the mind people do this to themselves, their clients, and their industry. Bummer!

John - Keep in mind there are a lot of different opinions here.

I did "shoot-to-burn" before getting connected with Pictage because I had no way to handle the fulfillment and I think if a photographer isn't outsourcing their fulfillment they ARE better off charging a higher service fee and then including the disk in with the package so they don't have to be bogged down with that.

Anyway - How about we have that conversation somewhere else and keep this one positive about her great site and bio.

Cheers,
DJ

Yup...I couldn't agree more! Bios are the one thing that can separate a photographer in a saturated area or just be that one extra thing to make a potential client call! :)

Word up yo!

As a director of communications professionally for a dozen years I've written many executive bios...yet it still remains one of the most difficult tasks to write my own. Not sure why. The short bio on my photography website, for instance, took more than a week to complete (and I still tweaked it the other night).

I love the "personal" and revealing style of Christina's site.

I don't know about that. I'm a pretty private guy and I don't know if I could reveal a lot of myself out on the internet for strangers to see.

I am afraid to write a bio, because it somehow puts me in a box. Any thoughts that it is limiting.

DJ-Beckham is moving to LA Galaxy...maybe you can shoot Posh and Beckham...one up Landon.

Christina you are very beautiful.

I can understand how this would be a valid concern hmm I think that its important to be real and to portray to your clients that you are human.

Gary - I don't blame you...the internet is a scary place.

Faith - you need to be in a box! lol

Christina - right on! Being real and "humanizing" your business is exactly the way to go! I'm excited to see what you accomplish! Rock on!

David, This post was so refreshing to me. I like when people remind me that it's OK to take a new and different route. Now you've got me thinking how to redo our LaCour bios. Thanks!

I hated writing a bio for my site. It felt totally lame and it didn't reveal who I was. I'm redesigning a new site and I can't wait to actually talk about myself in a video!!
