Prepare or be Punished

One of the things that's been really interesting to me lately is why it's so difficult for us humans to change our behavior until we are absolutely forced into it. In this time when we know things are gonna be tough why can't we prepare for it? I'm totally guilty of this in so many ways and it's baffling. Gary's been barking at me for a couple of years about the economy and everyone (myself included) was in denial and maybe I still am but I do know that I'm starting to change my behavior? Are you?

Why do you think it's so hard?

instead of thinking it's hard think of it as fun. I dunno. That was dumb.

I think it's just hard to admit that it could 'ever happen to me' sort of thing..

When the pain of staying the same is worse than the pain of change, people change. But I've realized I can NEVER change anyone, I can only INVITE them to change by allowing them to SEE ME change. As Ghandi said, "become the change you wish to see in the world."

What's interesting is that I've talked to many of my friends who have gone into service work or gone on missions for their faith and they often say that cutting all these things out of their life made their life so much better.

Even my buddy Deyl who did the house swap in spain said living without all the "luxuries" and entertainment that he has here was incredible.

So knowing that shouldn't we be excited about cutting those things out of our life. There's a lot of truth to what Gary said - It should actually be fun because we know how good it will be long term!

We talked about this a little bit while you were here, but I think we believe that things will turn around soon, so we will just keep doing what we are doing. And every week, month or year that goes by and it doesn't, we are forced to stop and fix the problems that we have and work on our business to survive.
Building a strong foundation so that when things get better...your business will soar! Clear out the clutter, streamline everything and make your business as efficient as possible. :)

Right now I'm struggling with "What is a need, and what is a want?" When it comes to "spending money to make money," it's sometimes hard to know what's best.

I think it's hard to change until we are forced to because it's just that-- we really see no need for it until we are forced to. And sometimes it's a really sucky way to learn too.

In other news, Gary should share with us what he has been "barking" at you... ;)

And, on a totally unrelated note.. this is the word verification that I need to type in to post this comment: xmmkmmm. I thought it was funny, anyway:)

Hey David. If you're worried about procrastination and not doing the hard stuff, there's this book I picked up in Boston that's been helping me to change my behavior.

I wrote about it on my blog

in the past, there was a quick bounce back period or an easy solution...now, it doesn't seem as simple to fix.

So, tell us. What should we be doing?

Now I love Gary like he was a brother from another mother, and I am very grateful for the things he has done to help me with my business...but...sometimes I think HE thinks we're all a bunch of clueless ---------!! ;)
