Lonely Memories

I haven't been on the road much in the past couple of months and I actually forgot how lonely it is traveling alone. I can think of few things I enjoy less.

You walk alone. drive alone. eat alone. sleep alone.

There are no memories.

I try to spice it up by flying first or getting into the little airport sanctuaries (this lounge in SF is pretty nice) or eating at fancy restaurants but really even those things lose their appeal rather quickly and believe me I'm not ungrateful for my life...I just don't like this part of it.

I really just want to get to NY and then get home.

I'm with you man. I traveled ONE time without Lindsay. It was a trip to China and I will NEVER do it again. Still had a decent time - as China is incredible. But I won't do it again.

Traveling alone sucks. You're not complaining - just a fact :)

What are you out in NY for?

Your post reminded me of my trips back to the Philippines alone. The whole trip usually takes 24 hours and I never enjoyed it. I usually take Tylenol PM to knock me out lol. Btw, welcome to our rainy and gloomy weather! I still love NY regardless :) I'm sorry you might not recognize me coz this is my first comment, but I'm a frequent visitor.

Whenever I travel alone I always see how many interesting people I can meet. From bartenders, hotel maids, gas station attendants, other people traveling alone, etc. Everyone's got an interesting story if you can get them to open up just a little. Even here in NY, we get a bad rep for being cold, but really we're just like everyone else yearning for that human connection. People can be fascinating if given the chance.

Wow. That's amazing. I love traveling. I do it a lot. Last month a girlfriend and I went to Thailand together, and that was the first time in 10 years I've traveled with someone. It was fun, for sure, but different.

I love people-watching, so that helps my time in airports. And I love people, so that helps my time on planes and other modes of transportation. And I always know somebody at my destination... always, so that takes care of any lonely afternoons and evenings during my trip.

I hope you can figure out a way to start enjoying the traveling alone. It's really not all that bad. =)

Wow, if I knew you were coming this way I would drive to the airport just to meet you - it would be a memory. I just think that would be neat to meat a photographer from the other side of the country (ok,I'm actually SW Ontario, Canada) with the same faith beliefs - Very Much A Memory - I'm sure you are not over this way real often :) But it's an offer - and I'll bet there are lots of others who would love to make you the same offer!
